Welcome to Far Beyond the Miyako!
So how did all this come about? Allow me to explain.
Many years ago, in those halcyon days before the world seemed to lose its collective mind, I was a (relatively) fresh faced student trying to find my place in the world. The one thing that I wanted to do more than anything else was tell the stories of a place that held endless fascination for me: Japan.
I put in the legwork required to learn the language, before branching out into areas of study of great interest to me, namely history. No one can encounter Japan without being attracted to its vibrant, bloody, and often tragic past, for within that lies the key to understanding what makes modern Japan tick.
Yet one thing that I encountered again and again was a distinct lack of any information available outside of Japanese on topics of interest to me, and about which I believed others in the wider world would like to know more.
So this blog is an attempt to remedy some of that gap. I should add that it is the work of an amateur, but if its content spurs you to seek out and find out more about this fascinating land of Japan and its people, so much the better!
Posts to this blog will be updated regularly, and I’m aiming to add more in content via Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
So drop on by, take a look around, and feel free to comment!
